Highlife and house intertwine on the album Wono by Koichi Sakai and Afla Sackey

The two artists, with this first collaborative project, present Wono, which will be released on March 13 by Olindo records.

Wono is a collaborative album between London-based Tokyo producer Koichi Sakai, who has been mixing for decades, and Afla Sackey, a renowned Ghanaian percussionist. This versatile 7-track album features a collaboration with the Senegalese Kadialy Kouyate who plays kora and a revisited version of a melody by the Nigerian drummer Babatunde Olatunji on the track “Jingo”.

“Wono” which means “It’s up to us” in Ga is inspired by the artists’ two musical cultures, fusing with perfection Afla Sackey’s rhythms with Sakai’s electronic productions like the eponymous track, which combines acid house and highlife groove.

You can consult the cover and pre-order the album at Olindo records.
