On the road to take on the world, young DJ and producer Teno Afrika adds his name to the PAM Club hall of fame with a refined amapiano set. A must listen.
In the wake of our features on the women of amapiano and DJ Doowap’s favorite bangers, PAM Club also gets to welcome another key player in the genre. In his early twenties, Lutendo Raduvha, aka Teno Afrika, hails from the Gauteng province, where it all began. Rolling between the townships of Pretoria and Johannesburg, the young producer picks up influences as he moves, escaping the mainstream vortex to give his own instrumental vision. For, in the midst of this initially discreet trend -now national and on the verge of conquering the world- there are still underground artists who are writing the history of South African electronic music in their own way, just like kwaito, gqom or deep house. Since 2016, this lover of a now dominant genre has been assembling in the shadows his own synthetic melodies, nonchalant beats and murderous bass lines to deliver in 2020 a stunning first album entitled Amapiano Selections. His minimalist and progressive style joined the more incisive style of DJ Black Low on Awesome Tapes From Africa, a label that we were not expecting and that also signed the duo Native Soul. Freshly back from Japan, Teno shows once again his sensitivity in a DJ set, taking the opportunity to announce that he is working on a new album…
“This mix is a compilation of my favorite tracks of the moment, with some of my new productions, to give listeners a preview of my next album…”
