German label Figure unveils the second volume of its Open Space series, offering “possibilities for artists to freely pursue their creativity in a completely undefined area”.
In 2020, despite all the troubling events, Berlin-based record label Figure took a leap of faith by introducing a completely new compilation series: Open Space. The series’ goal is to “feature forward-thinking electronica and ambient from a well-curated list of seasoned producers. Compositions that invite to let the mind wander, weaving stories, and conjuring up emotions”.
Two years after its first edition, Figure returns with a new compilation, further exploring what ambient music means nowadays. Open Space Volume 2 presents an exciting lineup of artists, some new to the label and others renowned for their more dance-centric works, the project aiming to give each producer their creative freedom.
The setlist includes tracks from Kenyan-born ambient prodigy KMRU (“In A Distant”), American multi-instrumentalist Laraaji (“Beloved”), Japan’s leading DJ and producer Wata Igarashi (“Our Place”), Figure founder Len Faki (“Flew Away”) and many more. “No matter their respective scene or background, all artists are using their unique approach to display something deeply emotive”.
