R2Bees unveil the boiling visuals of “Yawa” featuring Sarkodie

The city of Tema is once again on the map in this featuring between the iconic duo and the “Rap King” Sarkodie.

R2Bees, composed by singer Mugeez and his cousin rapper Omar Sterling, have clearly earned their stripes in music: the group took off from Tema (a port city close to Accra) more than 10 years ago, ending up collaborating with the biggest West African stars (Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido…). The two cousins were even nominated for the BET Awards in 2013. Respected as elders in a constantly evolving environment, their longevity probably relies on their formidable capacity to renew themselves.

“Yawa” is a perfect example of their skills: even if the band started out with hiplife (a mix of hip-hop and highlife), this track is clearly oriented towards afrobeats, with a rap passage delivered by the great Sarkodie. The video expresses the same intensity as the frenetic instrumental produced by Kizzi Beat and DJ Afroelektra. Between the electric dance moves and the wild motorbike drivers, the inhabitants of the Jamestown neighbourhood must have been quite shaken up by the shooting of the visuals. If Omar Sterling and Mugeez have unveiled various solo tracks in recent months, “Yawa” is their first single together since their latest project Site 15, released in January 2019. A new project in preparation?
