Bongo Joe unveils a new track from their upcoming compilation Léve Léve, dedicated to the golden era of São Tomé & Príncipe music.
Léve Léve is the first ever compilation devoted to music from São Tomé & Príncipe, two small islands situated off the coast of Gabon in central Africa. This compilation presented by Bongo Joe, and whose first single from the band Africa Negra was published on PAM a short while ago, unravels a story of liberation where the music of Africa, Europe and the Americas unify with a carefree spirit, personified by a phrase the islanders use in repitition: “leve, leve” (“take it easy”).
This collection of tracks has a rich, complex and idiosyncratic musical DNA that lifts the veil on the mysteries and secrets of the island territories of São Tomé and Príncipe. ‘Nga ba compensadora’ from the iconic leader of Os Leonenses, Pedro Lima, is the new track to be unveiled by Bongo Joe before the release of the compilation.
LÉVE LÉVE São Tomé & Principe sounds 70s-80s, out on 31 January 2020 via Bongo Joe. Discover the album artwork below and pre-order it now here.
