Giant of Egyptian trap, rapper Wegz continues to expand his musical palette with afrobeats inspired single.
Originally from the Al Wardian neighborhood in Alexandria, Wegz has been putting his stamp on rap since 2017. At 24 years old, he has already distinguished himself with influences from r&b, pop, trap, drill, mumble, and gnawa. On this new single, Wegz tests out his afrobeats influences after having featured alongside the chameleon of Moroccan rap, El Grande Toto, in his last clip.
On a swinging beat produced by Rahal, Wegz avoids the ego tripping clichés to offer a track of haunted romanticism. He expresses his feelings of unrequited love with a voice coated in autotune: “Taking a chance, I asked her out and she rejected me. She surprised me. Where is my prestige? My love, I laugh at my fiasco” (ElBakht – Wegz)
In just two days, the song has accumulated more than 3 million views on Youtube. Creating the event with each new release, Wegz fascinates listeners with his versatility and ease. A young prince having released only one EP and a multitude of singles, Wegz already reigns over Egyptian trap music. He only needs an album to get the crown.
