Montpellier-based Guyanaian DJ, singer, and producer OhjeeLo is making a name for herself in the PAM Club with her fiery and at times unexpected mix of genres, where the Caribbean collides with club music from all four corners of the earth. It’s lit!
A music fan from day one, it was in 2015 that OhjeeLo’s life changed completely – she discovered turntables. This new-found passion coincided with her move from Cayenne to Montpellier. She started to release her first tracks on Soundcloud in collaboration with the producer Yungmily, with whom she also creates tandem mixes. As a DJ for Piñata Radio in 2020, she stood out by exploring the worldwide music scene on her Beatgrid show, moving effortlessly from afrobeats to baile funk, from dancehall to gqom, always with a soft spot for music from the Caribbean, be it from the French West Indies, Guyana or Haiti. Based on the principle that you can mix anything and everything, she’s always on the hunt for seemingly crazy combos, just like this spicy mix that will take you in all directions. For PAM Club, she’s given us something really juicy, while at the same time managing to showcase her impeccable technique. Listeners, you won’t have time to work out whether it’s shatta, bouyon, jungle, or ragga dancehall coming up next!
“For this mix, which gradually gathers speed, I wanted to build a bridge between musical genres that don’t usually cross paths. In my usual style, I’ve tried to mix jungle and bouyon, shatta and grime, afro-house and West Indian rap. I’ve included two exclusives from the Martinique rapper Herbad, as well as other gqom and percussive club tracks.“
