Nyege Nyege Festival unveils 2019 line up

Three days of music with more than 300 artists from over 30 countries, at the source of the Nile river in Jinja, Uganda.

Kampala-based collective Nyege Nyege is back with its fifth edition. After the threats of cancellation they received last year, they seem to be more determined than ever to prolongate their utopic temporary autonomous zone at the source of the Nile river.

This year’s line up spreads through five stages, highlighting the East-African scene they have helped developing for years : Slikback, Duke & MCZO, Sisso, Jay Mitta, MC Yallah, Rey Sapienz, Jako Maron will be representing Nyege Tapes and Hakuna Kulala labels on the festival’s stage.

This year, the festival also explores the new African alternative pop scenes. Nigerian alté pionneer Santi, who pushes the boundaries of mainstream music, as well as Ugandan dancehall Queen Sheeba and South African rapper Yugen Blakrok will be performing at Nyege Nyege.

One of this year’s highlights is probably Congolese band Fulu Mziki, who’ll be doing its first performance outside of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and will be in Uganda for a month building instruments, costumes and recording an album in the Nyege Nyege Studio.

Other noteworthy acts are also Swiss-Congolese experimental-techno artist Bonaventure, Brasilian hardcore baile funk pionneer Badsista, Detroit legend Juan Atkins and Chinese underground producers Hyph11e and Gooooose.

Nyege Nyege Festival will take place between Septembre 5th and 8th in Jinja, Uganda. Check the full line up and book your tickets on festival’s website.
