PAM Club: Kgomotso Sekhu represents the Music in Exile label

With a spirit of community and sharing at the heart of what they do, the Australian label Music in Exile released some great music in 2020. That’s why we asked for a mix from the South African DJ Kgomotso Sekhu, an ambassador behind the turntables.

Born in Pretoria, Kgomotso is a multidisciplinary artist with a passion for filmmaking, African education, cultural exchange and community development. A DJ for more than 15 years, this traveler gained international notoriety by working for Disney and HBO. Here he represents the Music in Exile initiative, and the values that this label embodies. Based in Australia, Music in Exile offers a space for artists from different cultural and linguistic communities who are settled in the country. By giving all of their income to the artists, the structure traces a possible career for musicians who then have the resources to express themselves and share their talent in a country that is not their own. In 2020, Music in Exile proved its commitment to the cause by sharing the atypical stories of the Afrobeat orchestra Ausecuma Beats, the traditional Ethiopian-Eritrean duo Music Yared and the South Sudanese Gordon Koang.

“A romantic ride without borders through Africa, with the groove and blues of our elders. A trip to Africa without a passport … ”
