Sampa The Great is back with outstanding new video, ‘Final Form’

“Final Form” is Sampa’s first offering for 2019, a funky song inspired by classic hip-hop, sampled from 70’s band The Sylvers.

Sampa The Great is a Zambian artist and singer-songwriter who expresses herself through music and poetry.

Following Australian Music Prize-winning 2017 album Birds and the Bee9, the single “Energy” released in 2018 was a stunning ode to feminine energy. She’s now returning with “Final Form”, a triumphant single produced by longtime collaborator Silentjay (Rhythm Section) that draws inspiration from the energy of their shared inspirations in classic hip-hop.

Shot between Zambia and Botswana, where Sampa was born and raised, the astonishing video was filmed in the run up to her first ever shows on African soil, including her recent homecoming show in Zambia.
Visually, it’s bright and high-spirited, capturing traditional dances of Zambian Nyau dancers performing in the streets.

Speaking about her new single, Sampa The Great says, “The video was inspired by the belief of having a spiritual exodus back to yourself.” “We often as black people in the diaspora talk about the physical return to our roots but not so often about the spiritual. ‘Final form’ is meant to start that conversation.

Out on Ninja Tune, the song is available on all platforms.
