The Ghanaian singer, songwriter and composer unveils the visuals of her new single two weeks after its official release.
Described as a “fusion of RnB, trip-hop, alte, afrobeats and dancehall”, the multifaceted artist seems to flourish more and more in her non-conformist musical philosophy.
Directed by David Nicole Sey, known for his collaborations with Sarkodie, R2Bees or King Promise, the video features the singer evolving in a whimsical and incoherent setting. Between a queer strip club, an enchanted forest and a haunted circus, the visual perfectly embodies Amaarae’s unconditional ethics: breaking standards and being where she is not expected. “Like it” is a song about desire and dissatisfaction produced by Rvdical the Kid, a DJ and producer renowned in the Ghanaian electro scene. Once again, Amaarae has surrounded herself with alternative artists for her new track. She herself is close to the Nigerian alte scene and occupies a very singular spot in the Ghanaian music industry because of her visual and musical identity. Combining influences ranging from Wande Coal to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Billie Holiday, she delivered her second EP Passionfruit Summers in 2017.
“Like it” will not be part of a particular EP or album, but the singer is currently working on a new project driven by a new “artistic maturity”. Interview to be published next week.
