The African Giant was joined by a British giant to “bridge the gap” between Nigeria and its diaspora.
The words of American superstar Diddy serve as an introduction to Burna Boy’s new music video: “the music you making is life“. Indeed, the executive producer of the Nigerian singer’s latest album was right: the “Real life” visuals precisely depict random scenes of life. In the impoverished districts of London, Meji Alabi’s camera paints a touching portrait of London’s black youth, who navigate between friendship, love, family and soft drugs. Then, suddenly, the narrative takes a dramatic turn, plunging the protagonist’s life into the violence of a crime… and the beauty of a reincarnation. Stormzy’s chorus perhaps serves as a moral or an explanation to this spiritual video: “Real life is for living, use this life that you’re living, be free“.
The visuals are also to be analyzed bearing in mind the terrible stabbing phenomenon that particularly affects the popular youth of the English capital. Either way, this thought-provoking video definitely has the aura of a beautiful conclusion to “Twice as Tall”, Burna Boy’s latest album that conquered the world charts. We hope that the singer still has some surprises in store for us.
