The New-York based Kenyan singer drops the first visual from her debut EP, Leave Me At The Pregame.
Maya Amolo started out by collaborating with producers on the internet to create “sad-gal” tunes on SoundCloud, including “U Wanna” and “Where Tornados Flew” as well as Lo-Fi voicemail with “North Star (part 1&2)” and “Rainy Daze”.
The singer quickly amassed a dedicated listenership and garnered the attention of local artists, producers and musicians, among whom was Kenya’s famed RnB artist Karun. On July 3rd, she released Leave Me At The Pregame, her first body of work, in which she takes us through a melodious journey of self-acceptance and healing. “Lush Green” is the EP’s fourth track.
“Lush Green” is a Kamau Wanaina produced song supported by subtle tinkering beats. In her lyrics, Maya explores the feelings that come with being away from your comforts and the ones you love over time.
According to the singer, “this visual is the perfect representation of what makes me feel most cared for and comfortable, and what I was writing about when I was homesick in New York in the winter: the comfort of a green garden and support from people at home”. The visual is shot in her home garden; directed by Mumbi Muturi (the artist’s mother), capturing a lush green vegetation, reminiscent of hot Kenyan summers.
