Equiknoxx's Bobby Blackbird pays tribute to ska with 'The Master Blenda'

The mastermind behind Equiknoxx revisits the classic genre of Jamaican music, surrounded by legendary musicians.

Equiknoxx is releasing an unexpectedly solar instrumental ska track, composed by Nick ‘Bobby Blackbird’ Dean. Conceptualized all the way back to 2015, when choreographer Liane Williams needed music for her dance documentary 5,6,7,8 Diaries, the song had only been recorded on a voice note, until now.

Indeed, Bobby suffered a tragic near-fatal car accident that left him hospitalized for three months. When he left the hospital, he was determined to bring the song to life, and surrounded himself with a team of renowned musicians.

Featuring Grammy nominated band Raging Fyah as well as keyboard legend Franklyn “Bubbler” Wahl from The Professionals and illustrious trompet player Stingwray, the 10″ also features a dub version dropped by Jordan “Time Cow” Chung, Gavsborg and Bobby Blackbird himself. The cover is a self-portrait of the artist.
