“2 Chains” is Headie One’s latest manifesto on continuing to rise above the naysayers. The latest British rap sensation, his debut album Edna went to No.1 on the UK Albums Chart, making history as the first drill album to achieve such a milestone and netting him two BRIT nominations. In this new video, he celebrates newly acquired success and the two chains he wears, employing an ominous string-based melody that harkens back to the early days of grime. Shot at an abandoned warehouse, the visual borrows from war video game aesthetics, inspired by the likes of Call of Duty and Warzone. It also shows Headie revelling in the pleasures of shooting a flamethrower.
“2 Chains” comes following the release of “Pound Signs,” which came out in June and cemented him as one of Britain’s leading rappers. Seen by many as the “king of drill,” his success has taken the grassroots subgenre from the underground to one of the most applauded scenes in global music.
