Reekado Banks and Fireboy DML drop visuals for "Ozumba Mbadiwe" remixes

Reekado Banks invites his superstar entourage to give the remix treatment to his most recent hit track “Ozumba Mbadiwe” off his OTR Vol.2 EP including a music video with Fireboy DML.

Reekado Banks, who had been off the map since his 2016 EP SPOTLIGHT, is back in full swing with a series of EPs singles, and now a project of superstar remixes. This latest 4 cut remix pack includes Ghanian Afropop, highlife and Afrobeats singer KiDi, Tanzanian singer and songwriter Rayvanny, South African singer, rapper, and premier voice in amapiano, Lady Du and Ivory Coast native Elow’n. The approach is a healthy pan-African selection of artists that slip into the P.Priime production that blends the smooth melodies of Afrobeats with the contagious log drum of amapiano.

Likely inspired by the CKay “love nwantiti” method that made history when it shot the Nigerian artist to the top of the charts and continues to be one of the most viral tracks out of Africa. Reekado Banks is using his remixes to reach new audiences, expose new styles and shoutout his favorite interpreters from amapiano to Ivorian rap.

Although it’s not all about music. “Ozumba Mbdiwe” is also the name of the expressway that leads to Lekki Toll gate in Lagos, Nigeria where peaceful protesters were massacred for protesting against police brutality in October 2020. “‘Ozumba Mbadiwe’ captures a few different subject matters, but the most important is me paying homage to the victims of the #EndSars protest massacre.” Reekado explains, “I was one of the protesters at Lekki Toll Gate before I had to travel, so the massacre at the Toll Gate cut deep for me, because it happened less than 48 hours after I left, and I just can’t shake that feeling. With the remix, I wanted someone that could add a different perspective to the record. Fireboy has been one of my favourite artists for a while now and he has made his love for this record public, so I thought he’ll be a good fit for a remix, and he smoked it”.
