Analog Africa shares new compilation of psychedelic cumbia artist Ranil

After the release of the excellent Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical compilation, Analog Africa offers a selection of tunes that had been pre-selected for the second Ranil project.

Raúl Llerena Vásquez – known worldwide as Ranil – is a singer, conductor and a great personality in his country. He was born in Iquitos – the capital of Loreto – which is located in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. And it was here, in a city completely cut off from the Peruvian coast and surrounded by impenetrable forests, that a new, typically Amazonian style of Cumbia was born in the early 1970s.

Ranil’s extraordinary output has remained one of the best-kept secrets among collectors of cumbia and psychedelic Latin sounds until the release of the fully-licensed compilation Ranil y su Conjunto Tropical assembled by Analog Africa. As the physical release has been postponed due to the pandemic affecting the planet, Samy Ben Redjeb (the label’s founder) decided to offer a selection of tunes that had been pre-selected for the second Ranil project to be found in the Stay Safe & Sound Ranil Selection. Prepare yourself for a guitar groove you won’t soon forget.

Stay Safe & Sound Ranil Selection is to be found on the label’s Bandcamp.
