Adekunle Gold drops Fela‑inspired new single, 'Kelegbe Megbe'

The Nigerian afropop artist’s new single receives a Clarence Abiodun Peters-directed Afrocentric visual.

The avant-garde afro pop artist Adekunle Gold is back with a new jam highly influenced by Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti. With its jazzy horns and live instrumentation, “Kelegbe Megbe” – translates to Know Your Level – pays homage to the traditional sounds of Nigerian highlife, contrasting with the mainstream sounds of Adekunle’s previous work.

The concept video, which is directed by renowned Nigerian filmmaker Clarence Abiodun Peters who has worked with the likes of Burna Boy, Rema, Tiwa Savage and Wizkid, echoes the song’s message that you should follow your own lead and not obey any rules and do what feels good.

Speaking in detail on the themes behind the single, Adekunle Gold says: “When you know who you are, what you represent and are fully confident in yourself, you stop listening to opinions, trends and suggestions, good or bad because if you believe the good from a source, you better believe the bad from that same source, after all, human beings are fickle.”

“Kelegbe Megbe (Know Your Level)” is out now, stream it here.
