The Parisian label unveils Giant + Guitar, a classic LP originally released on Voice of Lebanon.
“Omar Khorshid is the first crossover guitarist in the Arab world. […] He is the pan-Arab heir of guitar electrification,” Mario Choueiry, project manager at the Arab World Institute and collaborator of Wewantsounds, explained during an interview with PAM. Indeed, the guitarist is a music legend. Born in 1945 in Cairo, he pioneered an Egyptian brand of rock in the 1970s, a sound full of musical experiments, particularly when it came to the guitar. Following the reissue of his mythical album, With Love, last February, Wewantsounds now turns to Giant + Guitar. Recorded by renowned Lebanese sound engineer Nabil Moumtaz, the album features the sound of Khorshid’s unique electric guitar playing mixed with Arabic melodies over beautifully psychedelic arrangements.
The project has been fully remastered and comes with the original Voice of Lebanon artwork, plus a two-page insert containing liner notes by Lebanese DJ and curator Ernesto Chahoud. This release follows the reissue of Khalik Hena, an album by the Algerian-Lebanese diva Warda.
Giant + Guitar by Omar Khorshid, out on November 26 via Wewantsounds.
