Crate diggers vol. 2: what are we listening around the world?

Crate Diggers’ drive is seeking and showing the last musical trends.

Crate Diggers’ second volume takes you around the world. From Abou Diarra‘s n’goni melodies to Roger Raspail‘s West French Indies rhytms, by way of Pierre Kwenders‘ World 2.0 and Tamikrest‘s Saharan rock, the compilation puts the spotlight on a wide range of music styles. Even club music finds its place on the tracklist with afrohouse producers Spoek Mathambo and Mo Laudi next to the rising star of Tunisian underground, Deena Abdelwahed.

Pierre Kwenders
Congolese-Canadian 31 years old musician blends congolose rumba and electro in what we call World Music 2.0.

Mo Laudi
Mo laudi has been honing DJ, producing skills in the underground for the longest time. He is integral in the introduction of South African House to the UK nightlight life which went on to influence the rise of UK funky.

Spoek Mathambo
The 34-year-old producer takes you by the hand to guide you through the South Africa of today. Spoek pays tribute to the house music that came into the country from Chicago in the late ’80 and spread all over the warehouse parties before mutating under the effect of idiomatic rhythm cultures.

Tamikrest
Tamikrest is a group of musicians who belong to the Tuareg people. They mix traditional African music with Western rock and pop influences and sing in Tamashek.

Deena Abdelwahed
Deena just signed her first EP on the french record label InFiné. Her style is based on deconstructed beat and experimental electronic music.

Abou Diarra
Abou Diarra is the king of n’goni, a string instrument originating in West Africa that can produce fast melodies, appears to be closely related to the akonting and the xalam.

Roger Raspail
Guadeloupean drummer Roger Raspail is a true living legend in jazz.
