The Marseille-based duo will release the project, an exploration of the neoperreo alternative scene, on French label Chinese Man, on October 15.
Following a debut EP in 2017 and an album in 2019, the explosive duo presents SudAmericat, an interesting cocktail of reggaeton beats, baile funk and cumbia mixed with acid-techno, juke and trap influences. In this new opus, which takes the form of a real-life journey, the Marseille-based producers meet alternative reggaeton MCs and South American LGBT+ artists. It was during their South American tour that the idea to assemble exclusively Latin American collaborations on a single format arose, over a glass of Fernet or local brandy with local artists they met on the road.
On six dancefloor-ready tracks Baja Frequencia features talented artists: Chocolate Remix from Argentina, an LGBT activist challenging patriarchy and named by BBC as one of the 100 most innovative and inspiring women in the world; Yanna, a Peruvian MC with a blade-sharp flow; Frank Takuma, a Colombian rapper from Bogota’s vibrant hip-hop scene; Faauna, a pioneering Argentinean digital cumbia duo; Shuubass, a leading figure in Buenos Aires’ underground reggaeton scene; and the Kimbaya Ripuff quartet from Colombia. On “Caos Sin Respuesta,” which is available now, Yanna takes us straight to the slums of Lima (Peru), where violence, racism and classicism are part of everyday life. Her pen delivers a vitriolic message, full of social commentary and a sense of rebellion.
