The legendary orchestra Poy-Rythmo, one of the oldest and most prolific from Africa, released a new album : Madjafalao.
The band were first formed in 1966 under the name Orchestre Poly-Disco in the coastal town of Cotonou. They recorded around 500 songs between the late 1960s and early 1980s, playing a variety of musical styles for various Beninese record labels. Their debut album was originally released in 1973.
Their tracks never get old. These years, the price of their vinyls on Discogs soar and hyped records labels like Luakabop, Soundway and Analog Africa repress their old gems.
Poly-Rythmo is a significant name when you try to list their inspirations : funk, latino, vaudou child, afrobeat, rumba and highlife. We highly recommend this energic album that perfectly represent the spirit of these sexagenarian in great shape !
