With an announcement of 70 new artists, Le Guess Who?, which takes place between 11-14 November in Utrecht, The Netherlands, has released the complete program for its 14th edition.
Le Guess Who? festival, circa 2007, is a “city-wide celebration of global sounds and cultures” aimed at showcasing underrepresented sounds. The event is characterized by its two programming types – general programming as well as specially curated programming led by artists and actors in different creative scenes. This year, the curatorial team is composed of John Dwyer (OSEES), Berlin-based producer Lucrecia Dalt, Japanese percussionist Midori Takada, jazz artist Matana Roberts and Phil Elverum (the Microphones/Mount Eerie). The Ugandan label Nyege Nyege Tapes will also host a dedicated stage presenting Hakuna Kulala Club, featuring Authentically Plastic, Diaki, Marcelle/Another Nice Mess, Menzi and Turkana. The previously announced artist line-up includes Pa Salieu, Siti Muharam, and Damon Locks’ Black Monument Ensemble.
New additions to the general festival line-up include Californian neo-soul sensation Gabriels; Flohio, one of the hottest voices in UK hip-hop and grime today; Alogte Oho & His Sounds of Joy, an important new voice on the Ghanaian Frafra Gospel scene; ‘boss of Brussels rap’ Zwangere Guy, renowned for his honest lyricism and compelling live shows and veteran Japanese producer Shigeru Ishihara (aka DJ Scotch Egg)’s new project Scotch Rolex, featuring MC Yallah and Duma’s Lord Spikeheart. Elsewhere, new additions to the curated program includes Colombian duo Chúpame El Dedo, featuring members of The Meridian Brothers and Romperayo (curated by Lucrecia Dalt) and the ghostly R&B of South London’s Klein (curated by Matana Roberts).
