In less than 4 days, the French label Radio Chiguiro has gathered 49 tracks of electronic music to form ACIL, a charity compilation whose entire proceeds will be donated to an NGO. Many artists from Africa and the diaspora took part in the movement.
ACIL means “EMERGENCY” in Turkish. One week after the worst earthquake to hit Turkey and Syria in decades, the whole world is on the warpath, and help is coming from all sides. Convinced that music can also make things happen, the Radio Chiguiro label team mobilized in turn, contacting the former artists of the label and other key players of the global electronic scene. In only 4 days, 54 artists coming from 28 countries answered the call by sending exclusive tracks, contributing their part to this compilation with urgency.
In 2020, the label signed its first release, also charitable, with the compilation United w/ Techo, which helped the association of the same name to bring food, hygiene kits and water to the slums of Latin America and the Caribbean, hard hit during the Covid crisis. This time, it is the NGO Alliance Urgences* that will use the money collected by the compilation to help the victims of the earthquake. Widely represented, Africa and its diaspora have contributed to this surge of solidarity, offering the variety of styles they are known for: singeli, amapiano, afro-house, maloya, batida, afro-rap, baile funk and other afro-club essentials. So many genres that complete this tracklist as giant as it is colorful, which also brings together Latin downtempo nuggets, Afro-Peruvian experiments, ambient, abstract hip-hop, Turkish techno or Syrian traditional music.
ACIL is only available here at the price of 10€. A great opportunity to drop a ticket for a good cause, while listening to quality sound!
*The mission of Alliance Urgences is to organize the mobilization, and in particular the collection of funds, in the event of a humanitarian emergency. These funds are then allocated to the NGO members of the association (Action contre La Faim, Care France, Handicap International, Médecins du Monde, Plan International France and Solidarités International) in order to organize humanitarian aid on the ground.
