As a fine connoisseur of the Brazilian funk scene, Torres invites us in the heart of the favelas to discover the latest variations of the genre.

If it still suffers the torments of the Brazilian institutions and police force, the baile funk scene knows more than ever a creative emulation period. From the international superstars like Anitta and Ludmilla to the underground and more confidential strata of the genre, Brazilian funk has rarely been as effervescent as today. Thousands of kilometers away from the outskirts of Rio, São Paulo or Belo Horizonte, where the rhythm of funk constantly takes new forms and floods the streets, it is from Porto that Tiago Torres provides a meticulous work of clearing and valorisation of the best that the funk culture has to offer.

After several trips to Brazil in contact with the main actors of the movement, the DJ, manager and co-founder of XXIII, one of the most exciting labels of the global club sphere that we presented to you recently, exposes his discoveries in his show Morro on the British radio Noods. Following his monthly sets, the Portuguese takes control of the PAM Club for nearly 1 hour of bouncy beats shared in a burst of energy.

Pan African Music · PAM Club : Torres

“My focus on sounds coming out of Brazil are with me since a very early age. My father used to play loads of Bossa Nova and Samba at home and on long holiday drives. Somehow when I started DJing in 2015, brazilian funk felt very natural to me. Since then, because of a geographic distance from it, I’ve been digging more and more about Funk and the culture around it.

This mix is a 1 hour drive through some of my favorite subgenres within funk – Atabaque, Voltmix, Mandelão, Megatron and Funk from BH.
