{"id":91751,"date":"2021-11-05T13:14:43","date_gmt":"2021-11-05T11:14:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/?p=91751"},"modified":"2021-11-05T17:28:22","modified_gmt":"2021-11-05T15:28:22","slug":"alice-coltrane-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/alice-coltrane-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Alice Coltrane\u2019s  Africa: Live At The Carnegie Hall 1971 reissued"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alice Coltrane\u2019s interpretation of her late husband\u2019s \u201cAfrica\u201d with Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shapp, and Cecil McBee is to be reissued on vinyl this November.&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The 28 minute live performance is largely improvised, starting off with Clifford Jarvis and Ed Blackwell on drums, and bleeding into the heavy deeper notes of Alice Coltrane\u2019s piano, and the iconic buzz of <a href=\"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/tag\/pharoah-sanders\/\">Pharoah Sanders<\/a>\u2019 saxophone. The rendition also includes <a href=\"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/tag\/archie-shepp\/\">Archie Shepp<\/a> on sax and Cecil McBee and Jimmy Garrison on bass.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The song comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/tag\/john-coltrane\/?_per_page=17\">John Coltrane<\/a>\u2019s 1961 LP <em>Africa\/Brass <\/em>which opens with the 16 minute \u201cAfrica\u201d featuring jazz multi-instrumentalist John Dolphy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Out November 19th, the reissue is a splendid and ecstatic momento of spiritual jazz with some of its greatest masters.
