This year, the neo-soul sensation doesn\u2019t come from North America or Australia. Hailing from the city of Goi\u00e2na in central Brazil, Bruna Mendez is on a par with the giants of the genre like SiR, Kaytranada and The Internet. Following releases that reflect the current Brazilian scene, the 180g and Disk Union labels have joined forces in an effort to export Bruna Mendez’s second album. We\u2019ve seen acclaimed projects by the likes of Hermeto Pascoal & Grupo, Leonardo Marques and Xenia Fran\u00e7a, and now it’s Corpo Poss\u00edvel<\/em>‘s turn to join the prestigious catalog, two years after a domestic release that caused waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially a lyricist and author, Mendez began her career in 2008 as a musician in local carioca bands. She released her first EP Pra Ela<\/a> <\/em>in 2014, followed by her debut album, O Mesmo Mar Que Nega a Terra Cede to Sua Calma<\/a>,<\/em> two years later. What followed was the elegant electronic textures, deep vocal timbres and funky accents of her second album, Corpo Poss\u00edvel<\/em>. Far from the usual Brazilian standards, the young Bruna Mendez revealed an organic groove coupled with ethereal melodies on a sweet and futuristic soundscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
