{"id":86021,"date":"2021-08-30T13:15:47","date_gmt":"2021-08-30T11:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/okyerema-asante-drum-message\/"},"modified":"2021-09-13T12:59:15","modified_gmt":"2021-09-13T10:59:15","slug":"okyerema-asante-drum-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/okyerema-asante-drum-message\/","title":{"rendered":"Strut Records reissues Okyerema Asante\u2019s Drum Message"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The British label returns to the rich archives of Black Fire Records to celebrate an album by the Ghanaian master percussionist.&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Recorded in Washington D.C.\u2019s Arrest Studios in 1977, Asante\u2019s <em>Drum Message<\/em> is a deeply spiritual album. \u201c<em>This album really came from my heart<\/em>,\u201d he explained. \u201c<em>I wanted to project the African spirit in the music and come out with some unique African jazz<\/em>.\u201d Having started his career with the likes of Ebo Taylor, he later joined Hedzoleh Soundz, which performed with legendary musicians like Fela Kuti and Hugh Masekela.
