{"id":60948,"date":"2020-09-28T17:30:53","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T15:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/?p=60948"},"modified":"2020-09-28T17:50:04","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T15:50:04","slug":"olamide-carpe-diem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/olamide-carpe-diem\/","title":{"rendered":"Olamide announces new album, Carpe Diem"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Nigerian singer exports his talent with a new album on American label Empire Records.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the release of <em>999<\/em>&nbsp; in January, Nigerian music superstar Olamide has unveiled his latest album thanks to a new partnership between the label that launched his career, YBNL Nation, and the major American record company Empire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project features collaborations with friends from the Nigerian music scene, including <a href=\"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/tag\/fireboy-dml\/\">Fireboy DML<\/a>, Omah Lay, Peruzzi, Phyno, Bella Shumrda and Bad Boy Timz. Most of the tracks on the album were produced by 18-year-old prodigy P.Priime (Fireboy DML, DJ Cuppy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Olamide - Eru (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h6KWkycPh4g?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption>\u00ab Eru \u00bb &#8211; Olamid\u00e9<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Olamide&#8217;s album is a reflection of the Nigerian underground scene: \u201c<em>It\u2019s a combination of a lot of traditional elements and also a sound from way back in Nigeria called \u2018galala,\u2019 which has a little bit of reggae\/dancehall. It\u2019s also a fusion of something we call \u2018Celestial;\u2019 which is when you are playing secular music in church. It\u2019s like taking pop to the church.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Known for his multilingual songs that highlight his ability to rap and sing in English, Yoruba and Nigerian Pidgin, Olamide broadens his musical horizons on <em>Carpe Diem<\/em>, exploring new influences, especially through the colors of his vocal palette, which we rediscover on more afropop-oriented sounds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As its name suggests, <em>Carpe Diem<\/em> invites us to make the most of the present without thinking too much about the future, even if Olamide already anticipated its success by signing on a major American label.
