Still active at the age of 76, he released this year <em>Cinzento<\/em>, Valle&#8217;s third album in only two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He is now releasing a new studio album,&nbsp;<em>Marcos Valle JID003<\/em>, via Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad\u2019s Jazz Is Dead label this June. It follows, <em>Roy Ayers JID002<\/em> the first album in nine of the jazz legend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One month after their meeting in 2019 at <em>Jazz Est\u00e0 Morto<\/em> and the recording sessions for the album that follows, Valle impressed Shaheed Muhammad with his professionalism and confidence in this new environment with limited time to capture the music: \u201c<em>Marcos is so focused on getting it right. A couple of songs he sat down in the moment and wrote some lyrics about what was actually happening, and that\u2019s how free and open he is.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The method developed by the two producers is the same for all the <em>Jazz Is Dead <\/em>sessions: Younge and Shaheed Muhammad started by digging Valle\u2019s back catalog for direction and inspiration. If spontaneity and improvisation are trademarks of jazz music, then this album stands out in the maestro\u2019s lengthy discography as the closest thing to a jazz album. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"&quot;Viajando Por A\u00ed &quot; - Adrian Younge, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, and Marcos Valle\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3it_xipj5Xw?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>In the first extract revealed, \u201cN\u00e3o Saia da Pra\u00e7a\u201d (\u201cDon\u2019t Leave the Square\u201d) is bossa with an edge, sounding like an outtake from Valle\u2019s early 70s masterpiece, \u201cGarra\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valle\u2019s mellifluous vocals adorn seven of the eight tracks with his wife, Patricia Alvi, adding textures to a few tracks and dueting with Valle on \u201cViajando Po A\u00ed\u201d (\u201cTravelling Around\u201d), a lush bossa nova layered with synths and guitar, sounding like Stereolab in Portuguese.
