But through it all, there was music and videos, the latter particularly important as much of the world locked down in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Through it all, these are our favorite Nigerian videos from these six months, featuring the best directors and musicians across the industry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"FIREBOY DML - VIBRATION\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YRhBfL3GEjQ?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fireboy DML \u2013 Vibration<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Fireboy DML followed his hugely successful debut album (<em>Laughter, Tears &amp; Goosebumps<\/em>) with an impressive batch of videos. \u201cVibration,\u201d one of its best songs got similarly acclaimed visuals by way of TG Omori, who appropriates cultural items of many places \u2013from Nigeria to Brazil\u2013 into the video\u2019s aesthetic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Lady Donli - Corner Ft. VanJess &amp; The Cavemen)<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>A much discussed work, the visuals for \u201cCorner\u201d sees director Shaun Kalu infuse Old Nollywood elements to tell a tale on the contemporary issues facing Nigerian women, from being asked by lecturers to offer sexual acts in return for grades, or punishing women who get by doing sex work. Lady Donli\u2019s \u201cCorner\u201d video (it is rightly being presented as a movie) was a good reminder that music can entertain and protest in equal measure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Rema x Rvssian - Beamer (Bad Boys) [Official Music Video]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cLha1-NuPzA?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rema &amp; Rvssian \u2013 Beamer&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Rema\u2019s first single of the year was the Rvssian-produced \u201cBeamer.\u201d&nbsp; The video (directed by Fxrbes)&nbsp; takes inspiration from the teenage bad boy image often applied to the whiz kid&#8217;s branding. With fast-paced scenes and jeweled teeth, Rema\u2019s commercial and sexual appeal is immediately present to anyone who sees the video.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Davido - 1 Milli (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1x5tIv6GC1o?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Davido \u2013 1 Milli&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>On the video for this song off Davido&#8217;s <em>A Good Time<\/em>, an outdoor wedding scene was evoked in beautiful colors and African-style designs. As it was in \u201cAssurance,\u201d Davido starred alongside fianc\u00e9e Chioma Rowland, offering tender touches and warm gazes into each other\u2019s eyes.&nbsp;It was directed by Priorgold Picture.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Burna Boy - Odogwu [Official Music Video]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sUliAM1ByDk?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Burna Boy \u2013 Odogwu&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>TG Omori, with just a little over two years in the industry, has worked with big names such as Wizkid and Olamide, boasting a very illustrious client list. Boy Director, as TG calls himself, is known for his colorful videos and innovative concepts. That is the case on \u201cOdogwu,\u201d where he pairs articles from the Igbo culture to Burna Boy\u2019s global appeal, making it an Afrocentric work that can hold its own against any other video globally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"WurlD - LOVE NOBODY (Official Music Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gJWyW1lnZ0s?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WurlD \u2013 Love Nobody&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The blue-haired WurlD is an ambitious artist. His video for \u201cLove Nobody\u201d is something straight out of a Bond movie. It\u2019s in fact inspired by a fight scene from <em>Casino Royale<\/em>. While a dangerous woman in black leather kicks ass, WurlD sings about jealous love and heavy intimacy. Co-directed by WurlD and Parker McMillan, it\u2019s a video directors of cinematic thrillers will be proud of.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Joeboy - Call (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cS61vkU6qLk?feature=oembed&#038;autoplay=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Joeboy \u2013 Call&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Afro Pop star Joeboy\u2019s video for \u201cCall\u201d is set in dystopian Lagos. With its impressive Marvel\u2013esque scenes, director TG Omori paints the Joeboy character in heroic colors as a love story is told against the destructive backdrop.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Vector - Comfort (feat. Davido)<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Last 2019, veteran rapper Vector released his EP, <em>Vibes Before Teslim, <\/em>a prelude to an album that\u2019s supposed to drop later this year. A standout of the project was \u201cComfort,\u201d a Davido\u2013assisted song which takes on the relative themes love and assurance. On \u201cShekere\u201d she features the legendary Beninese singer Angeliqu\u00e9 Kidjo \u2013its vibrant video is directed by Ovie Etseyatse and casts Yemi Alade and Ms. Kidjo in extravagant looks.
