The New-Yorker record label\u00a0Ostinato Records<\/a>\u00a0releases the Synthesize the Soul: Astro-Atlantic Hypnotica From the Cape Verde Islands 1973-1988.<\/h3>\n

After their independence in 1975, Cape Verde islands had\u00a0huge wave of emigration towards Europe and USA. Cape verdean musicians started to discover the new occidental musical styles with new instruments accompanying them : synthesizers. But it’s not a matter of forgetting their roots. The synthesizers became part of the local music. This blend gave birth to their own version of electronic music, reflecting the\u00a0ecstasy of a new\u00a0freedom.<\/p>\n
