Regarded as the best drummer\u00a0in the world by Damon Albarn<\/strong> and Brian Eno<\/strong>, Tony Allen is known for being the creator of Afrobeat with late Fela Kuti<\/strong>. During 36 albums, he shapes this genre pushing back its boundaries album after album. Throughout his long career, the 76 years old Nigerian multiplied collaborations. Recently, you might see him alongside\u00a0Jeff Mills<\/strong> in Paris<\/a> for an impressive\u00a0jam session between his drums and the Detroit DJ’s drum machine, or else on the last single of\u00a0Malian diva Oumou Sangar\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

With A Tribute to Art Blakey<\/em>, Tony Allen commends one of his biggest inspirations. Art Blakey<\/strong> made a name for himself in the 1940s in the big bands of Fletcher Henderson<\/strong> and Billy Eckstine<\/strong>.\u00a0In the mid-1950s Horace Silver and Blakey formed the Jazz Messengers<\/strong>, a group\u00a0known as “the archetypal hard bop<\/a> group of the late 50s”.
