“Shongo Foo” is a new single by Lesothian Morena Leraba and South African producers DJ Spoko and Andre Geldenhuys from Fantasma.<\/h3>\n

Producer and singer\u00a0Morena Leraba<\/strong> is originally a native of Ha-Mojela in Mafeteng district, located south of Lesotho\u2019s capital Maseru. For his lyrics, he takes inspiration in\u00a0Lesotho\u2019s traditional music, poetry, and it\u2019s sub-genre, Famo, which was introduced as early as the 1920s when Basotho men were migrant workers in South African mines. For his beats, Morena is more focused on Electro, Electronica, Afro-House and Hip-Hop.<\/p>\n

Recently, he decided to search for new electronic music collaborators in Cape Town, South Africa, where he met\u00a0Andre Geldenhuys<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0DJ Spoko<\/strong> (Marvin Ramalepe) from Spoek Mathambo<\/strong>\u2019s band, Fantasma. Morena was fascinated by Geldenhuys and DJ Spoko’s record label Beatlords, a fusion of electronic music and\u00a0Bacardi House.<\/p>\n

“Shongo Foo” –\u00a0which is a regional slang from DJ Spoko’s\u00a0hometown of Atteridgeville in Pretoria meaning \u201cto floss\u201d or when \u201csomeone is flossing\u201d –\u00a0is the result of these different stylstic origins, Sesotho Famo-inspired lyrics combined with the finest of South African electronic music.<\/p>\n
