Laveaux had known the song since childhood, but when she came across it again during a visit to Haiti, it was the catalyst for what would become <em>Radyo Siw\u00e8l<\/em>.\u00a0As M\u00e9lissa explains, \u201cthe moment I knew <em>Radyo Siw\u00e8l<\/em> was going to be about the occupation was when I found this song. Angelique Coles was the wife of the navy general overseeing the American occupation, and the song is about a young woman called &#8220;Angeli-ko&#8221; who can&#8217;t cook, clean, mend or sew, and someone tells her she should go back to her mother&#8217;s house to learn. It&#8217;s telling the Americans that they don&#8217;t know how Haiti works and to get the f*ck out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-13112 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Music-Video-Animation-GIF-downsized_large.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span class=\"m_4488451620328664881gmail-None\" style=\"color: #333333;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Created by the Temple Cach\u00e9 Studio\u00a0using vivid hand-crafted line and painting animation, the humorously defiant new video for &#8220;Angeli-ko&#8221; depicts the Haitians\u2019 response to the US occupation of the island between\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">1915-1934\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-US\">and the subsequent withdrawal of troops.\u00a0A\u00a0fresh and colorful journey that matches with the story.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Thanks to the magic of animation, the video lightly brings us in Haitians&#8217; daily life &#8211; all with humor and poetry.
