It went viral on the mp3 networks of West Africa, and was later released on the compilation <em>Music from Saharan Cellphones<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ilana: The Creator<\/em>\u00a0is his most ambitious record to date. Recorded between the USA and Niger with a live band, it pushes the boundaries of Saharan music.<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=3681570634\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" seamless=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"><a href=\"http:\/\/mdoumoctar.bandcamp.com\/album\/ilana-the-creator\">Ilana: The Creator by Mdou Moctar<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The first single &#8220;Kamane Tarhanin&#8221;\u00a0draws on both modern and traditional sources and combine elements into new forms, riffing on the hypnotic loops of takamba griots, or borrowing vocal patterns from polyphonic nomad songs, and combining them with his signature guitar.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ilana: The Creator\u00a0<\/em>will be out on March 19th on\u00a0Sahel Sounds.
