Prestigious london-based label Strut<\/a><\/span> releases\u00a0the first new volume in their pioneering \u2018Nigeria 70\u2019 series for over 8 years:\u00a0No Wahala: Highlife, Afro-Funk & Juju (1973-1987)<\/em><\/h4>\n

Curated by collector and DJ\u00a0Duncan Brooker, this new edition\u00a0brings together rare Highlife, Afro-funk and Juju from the \u201870s and early \u201880s. It highlights a creative period in Nigeria\u00a0when these established styles became infused with elements of Western jazz, Soul and Funk.<\/p>\n

Brooker places the spotlight particularly on some of the incredible Ukwuani musicians from the Delta State region as guitarist Rogana Ottah and Steady Arobby\u2019s International Brothers Band forged their own fluid brand of Highlife and soulman Don Bruce drew on the R&B. It also\u00a0 the album explores the close connection between Nigeria and Benin\u2019s music, namely through Sir Victor Uwaifo’s music.<\/p>\n
