They discovered an uncovered and unmarked pile of discarded recordings in a cluttered corner of the building of Radio Mogadishu.<\/p>\n<p>The pile turned out to be a cornucopia of different sounds:\u00a0radio jingles,\u00a0background music and\u00a0television shows, but there were also a good number of disco tunes. Some had been stripped of their lyrics, the interesting parts had been recorded multiple times then cut, taped together and spliced into a long groovy instrumental loop.<\/p>\n<p><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=643485191\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/track=3272608900\/transparent=true\/\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" seamless=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"><a href=\"http:\/\/analogafrica.bandcamp.com\/album\/mogadisco-dancing-mogadishu-somalia-1972-1991\">Mogadisco &#8211; Dancing Mogadishu (Somalia 1972-1991) by Dur-Dur Band<\/a><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mogadisco was not Analog Africa&#8217;s easiest project. Tracking down the musicians &#8211; often in exile in the diaspora &#8211; to interview them and gather anecdotes of golden-era Mogadishu has been an undertaking that took three years. As Colonel Abshir Hashi Ali, chief don at the Radio Mogadishu archive put in:\u00a0<em>\u2018I have dedicated my life to this place. I\u2019m doing this so it can get to the next\u00a0<\/em><em>generation; so that the culture, the heritage and the songs of Somalia don\u2019t disappear<\/em><em>.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Mogadisco &#8211; Dancing Mogadishu (Somalia 1972\u200b-\u200b1991), <\/em>out December 13th via Analog Africa.
