Crammed Discs presents a bi-dimensional album of unreleased recordings from four bands of Kinshasa\u00a0made in 1978. It is also accompanied with brand-new reconstructions made by the highly-respected French producer Martin Meissonnier<\/h4>\n

In 1978, Bernard Treton was recording four ‘tradi-modern’ bands in Kinshasa,\u00a0Konono N\u00b01,\u00a0Sankayi,\u00a0Orchestre Bana Luya\u00a0and\u00a0Orchestre Bambala. These sessions spawned the album\u00a0Za\u00efre: Musiques Urbaines \u00e0 Kinshasa <\/em>(published in 1986 by Ocara), a record which, for the first time, presented to Western audiences the electrifying music which was later to be known as “Congotronics”.<\/p>\n

The 80 minutes long album\u00a0is split into\u00a0two parts. On the one hand, the original recordings made during the sessions in 1978. On the other hand, the reworks\u00a0made by\u00a0Martin Meissonnier, the legendary producer who worked with Fela Kuti<\/a><\/span>, King Sunny Ad\u00e9 and Tony Allen among others.<\/p>\n
