Rejoice<\/em>, the long-awaited collaborative album between two African music legends, Tony Allen and the late Hugh Masekela, will finally be released on March 20th via World Circuit.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Having first met in the \u201970s, Allen stirring the progeny of Afrobeat behind\u00a0Fela Kuti, and Masekela an active anti apartheid trumpet phenom the two\u00a0talked for decades about making an experimental overdubbed album together. When, in 2010, the two artists saw their tour dates coincide in the UK, the producer Nick Gold<\/a><\/span>\u00a0did what he had to do to bring the two legends together from some recording sessions.<\/p>\n

The unfinished sessions sadly gathered dust\u00a0until Masekela’s death in 2018. Thanks to\u00a0 the tireless inspiration and newfound drive of Tony Allen and Nick Gold, and with the\u00a0willing endorsement of Masekela’s family, the duo dug up the soundtracks and finished recording the album in the summer of 2019 in the same London studio where the original sessions took place.\u00a0Allen and Masekela are\u00a0joined\u00a0by a new generation of\u00a0genre bending jazz musicians including\u00a0Tom Herbert\u00a0(Acoustic Ladyland\/The Invisible),\u00a0Joe Armon-Jones\u00a0(Ezra Collective),\u00a0Mutale Chashi\u00a0(Kokoroko) and\u00a0Steve Williamson.<\/p>\n
