As the world hear about the sad\u00a0passing of former NBA star Kobe Bryant, the prestigious Grammy Awards ceremony was held tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the player’s home.<\/h4>\n

Beninese singer Ang\u00e9lique Kidjo \u2014 who\u00a0spoke to us about her last album a few months ago \u2014 won the Grammy\u00a0for the world music category against Burna Boy, to whom she dedicates her trophy:\u00a0“The new generation of artists coming from Africa\u00a0is going to take you by storm and the time has come.\u00a0This is for Burna Boy, [he] is among those young artists [who] came from Africa [who] are changing the way our continent is perceived, and the way African music has been the bed rock for every [type] of music<\/em>” she remarked.<\/p>\n

The late\u00a0Eritrean-American rapper, Nipsey Hussle \u2014 who was killed in March of last year in his hometown of Los Angeles \u2014 was commemorated by artists like\u00a0John Legend, Meek Mill, DJ Khaled, Kirk Franklin, as well as fellow LA rappers YG and Roddy Rich.<\/p>\n

During the live version of “Higher,”\u00a0DJ Khaled and John Legend\u00a0were accompanied by dancers dressed in traditional zurias and other Eritrean attire. “I’m half American and half Eritrean \u2014 as much as I am a black person from America, I am a black person from Africa too<\/em>,” Nipsey once said in an interview.<\/p>\n

19-year old Koffee wins the Reggae Grammy. Tyler, the Creator wins the Grammy for Best Rap Album.<\/span><\/p>\n
