{"id":40906,"date":"2020-02-25T12:25:42","date_gmt":"2020-02-25T11:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/sandy-b-projects-style-with-qhum-qhaks-video\/"},"modified":"2020-05-04T22:16:11","modified_gmt":"2020-05-04T21:16:11","slug":"sandy-b-projects-style-with-qhum-qhaks-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/sandy-b-projects-style-with-qhum-qhaks-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Sandy B projects style with &#8216;Qhum Qhaks&#8217; video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe  class=\"pam-featured-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DB8gBhnH8D8\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Bringing new meaning to the phrase \u2018shaken not stirred\u2019, Sandy B shakes up a storm in this video for his latest single <i>Qhum Qhaks.<\/i><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Kwaito star Sandy B has been at the forefront of South African music since the 90s, pioneering a sound that effortlessly blended hip-hop, house, R&amp;B and G-Funk to create something timeless and unique.\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His first album in almost thirty years, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qhum Qhaks<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was released in May 2019 onto vinyl and subsequently released on all digital platforms this year, along with the video for his debut single of the same name.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inspired by classic 007 title sequences, the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qhum Qhaks <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video is a five-minute statement of the kwaito sound: hybrid textures and tempos.\u00a0<\/span>Far from a one-dimensional artist, Sandy B\u2019s inimitable and eclectic style is brought to the screen through a process of layering in the video. Bodies projected onto faces, faces onto fabric, and a dancing Sandy B onto all of them, paying homage to the textured approach of the South African star\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Like the song, multiple elements meet in the video, most significantly people of all colours, shapes and sizes. A reminder that <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Qhum Qhaks<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, like all of his music, is a meeting ground for people from all backgrounds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>When we spoke to Sandy B in June 2019, he propagated that wherever he goes around the world, people are dancing to his music; \u2018[t]here\u2019s no place where [people] hear my music and they just stand still. I just get the same reaction everywhere. That\u2019s surprising because most of the places I\u2019ve been to, they\u2019re hearing Sandy B for the first time\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The video was shot in Denmark over two days in November 2019.
