The group is also responsible for the <\/span><a style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.palmwinefest.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Palmwine Music Festival<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, hitting its third season this December, hosting the premier of Nigeria\u2019s alternative music scene including artists such as Falz, Ladipoe, and MI.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Palmwine is a reference to a uniquely West African musical genre and predecessor of j\u00f9j\u00fa, which gave rise at the beginning of the 20th Century and is attributed to the Kru people of Liberia who used guitars brought by Portuguese sailors to combine a diverse set of styles encouraged by fermented <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">palm-wine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However it was Nigerian musicians like Lagos born Baba Tunde King who popularised the sound in the 1920s and 30s.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #333333;\">Just as Tunde King used palm-wine to create his brand of j\u00faj\u00f9, Show Dem Camp is using the calypso and Yoruba folk melodies to create a Nigerian alternative that explores modern hip-hop, afrobeats, and R&amp;B with creative precision.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EilnP34ae4w\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compared to previous work, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Palmwine Express<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> feels like a victory lap for a group that has earned their stripes and finally getting the recognition they deserve. While the album remains true to their hip-hop roots, certain tracks like \u201c<\/span><a style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0c8K-zrZmOg&amp;list=RDEilnP34ae4w&amp;index=6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cool Me Down feat. Fasina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d find a broader appeal, bringing their palm-wine sound to the hi-life generation. Heavy hitters like Burna Boy, who has collaborated with the group since their 2018 album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Palmwine Music 2<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also appears on \u201c<\/span><a style=\"color: #333333;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=EilnP34ae4w&amp;list=RDEilnP34ae4w&amp;start_radio=1&amp;t=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">True Story<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d to reinforce the official Nigerian Pop flavour.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #333333;\">Nonetheless alt rap tracks like \u201cAlariwo\u201d are a strong reminder of the group\u2019s intense creativity.
