Since then, every October 31, Peruvians have paid tribute to Creole music and its heroes, celebrating in the streets and bars alongside Halloween, especially in Lima and Trujillo on the coast. Peruvian waltz, festejo, zamacueca and tondero rhythms are all part of this musical genre, a blend of rhythms inherited from Spanish colonizers, indigenous Peruvians and enslaved Africans.

In 2021, the Peruvian producer stunned lovers of avant-garde Latin music with AXUXA, a debut album released on Kebrada, the structure of masters in the field Dengue Dengue Dengue. With releases on the benchmark labels Eck-Echo, ZZK, Fértil and Terror Negro, Daniel Valle-Riestra experiments, subjecting the wide variety of Afro-Latin rhythms to the infinite possibilities of machines. Reflecting his roots in the coast, the Andes and the Amazon jungle, QOQEQA’s music is a post-modern tribute to his ancestors, whom he invokes in this melancholy selection, driven by 6/8 rhythms.

“Memories of my childhood, traditional waltzes performed by my favorite female singers who carry the Peruvian heritage in their voices, stories from the time of Afro-Peruvian slavery, contemporary electronic versions of pieces that also contain this atmosphere, an emotional selection of pieces that represent Creole folklore.”

Pan African Music · PAM Club : QOQEQA

Tracklist:

Eva Ayllón – Una Larga Noche
Chabuca Granda – Cardo o Ceniza
Lucha Reyes – Payande (Novalima version)
Dengue Dengue Dengue feat.
