{"id":107411,"date":"2022-05-25T18:45:33","date_gmt":"2022-05-25T16:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/?p=107411"},"modified":"2022-07-15T14:25:37","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T12:25:37","slug":"chouk-bwa-the-angstromers-ayiti-kongo-dub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/chouk-bwa-the-angstromers-ayiti-kongo-dub\/","title":{"rendered":"Chouk Bwa &#038; The \u00c5ngstr\u00f6mers returns with a dancefloor-friendly double part EP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chouk Bwa &amp; The \u00c5ngstr\u00f6mers unveils \u201cAgwetaroyo\u201d, the first track of their upcoming two-parts EP entitled <em>Ayiti Kongo Dub<\/em>, that will be released separately later on.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Belgian duo \u00c5ngstr\u00f6mers and the Ha\u00eftan band Chouk Bwa met back in 2016 to combine the electro sounds of Brussels\u2019 alternative scene with the raw strength of Chouk Bwa\u2019s vodou infused musical style. An unusual collaboration which bore fruit as the two groups released the acclaimed <a href=\"https:\/\/pan-african-music.com\/en\/chouk-bwa-the-angstromers-shares-the-hypnotic-clip-move-tan\/\"><em>Vodou Al\u00e9 <\/em>in 2020<\/a>. Together they managed to make the vodou musical traditions more legible to the public by staying true to its roots and without losing the essence of its intense spirituality. But they weren\u2019t ready to go their separate ways yet as they started working on a two part EPs entitled <em>Ayiti Kongo Dub. <\/em>The first part should be released on the 19th of June but, in the meantime, Chouk Bwa &amp; The \u00c5ngstr\u00f6mers have just unveiled \u201cAgwetaroyo\u201d, the first track of this anticipated EP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1936277796\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"><a href=\"https:\/\/choukbwa.bandcamp.com\/album\/ayiti-kongo-dub-1\">Ayiti Kongo Dub #1 by Chouk Bwa &amp; The A\u030angstromers<\/a><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Chouk Bwa promises an \u201c<em>exhilarating trip into their bush of ghosts by introducing a new stripped down line-up to fire up the dance floor, based exclusively on the drums and rhythms of the Haitian Kongo rite and deep electronic dub expansions by their trusted Belgian counterparts\u201d<\/em>. In Haitian Vodou, the lwa are spirits from the African diaspora that play a role of mediators between humanity and Bondy\u00e9, a transcendent creator divinity. These spirits are divided into different groups derived from the way in which enslaved West Africans were divided into &#8220;nations&#8221; upon their arrival in Haiti. There are different rites for each nation. The Kongo rite is about the Bantu lwa from Central Africa. They are celebrated in the Gona\u00efves from which the vodou group comes from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For <em>Ayiti Kongo Dub, <\/em>Chouk Bwa &amp; The \u00c5ngstr\u00f6mers experimented with this new format on tour, back in 2018 and 2019. Improvisation, which is one the main characteristics of Kongo drumming, takes a major place in this EP. Indeed, the style was developed for ceremonial purposes and was not initially intended for performance. It is a feature the \u00c5ngstr\u00f6mers have strived to mimic by performing a large part of their interventions in an improvised manner. <em>Ayiti Kongo Dub <\/em>is a detour from their previous album <em>Vodou Al\u00e9<\/em>.
