PAM invites you to listen to the track “Yen Ni Agoro” in preview.

After occasional collaborations with Senegalese griot Mamadou Mbenge or Guinean Ismael Kouyaté, Brooklyn’s Super Yamba Band continues to physically connect its music to that of the African continent by inviting singer and musician Osei Korankye on two tracks. In Ghana, he is one of the last musicians to maintain the Seperewa tradition, the traditional harp played by the Akan and Ashanti peoples, originally to entertain kings. A collaboration that makes a lot of sense for this brass and percussion quartet born in 2014 around a shared passion for psychedelic West African music. Leader of the Super Yamba Band, drummer Daniel Yount met Osei on a side-project in New York City, an encounter that served as a spark for this magical collaboration that echoes the Ghanaian Afro-funk style of the 70s, with a good rag on the arrangements. Osei’s voice sounds like a good old-fashioned highlife track on “Yen Ni Agoro”, a solid song loaded with groove and emotion, and with a palpable live energy. Just as organic, the B-side “Wo Nkoa Na Mendo” is a percussive and brassy ballad that almost leaves us with a taste of too little, so much so that their teamwork makes you want to hear more. A guarantee of undeniable quality, the EP is released by Ubiquity, an American label specialized in funk, soul, jazz, rare groove, and other contemporary music.

The EP will be released on March 25th, with a limited vinyl edition.
