Synthesize the Soul: the advent of synthesizers in Cape Verdean music

The New-Yorker record label Ostinato Records releases the Synthesize the Soul: Astro-Atlantic Hypnotica From the Cape Verde Islands 1973-1988.

After their independence in 1975, Cape Verde islands had huge wave of emigration towards Europe and USA. Cape verdean musicians started to discover the new occidental musical styles with new instruments accompanying them : synthesizers. But it’s not a matter of forgetting their roots. The synthesizers became part of the local music. This blend gave birth to their own version of electronic music, reflecting the ecstasy of a new freedom.

Find this piece of music history in digital or in CD/Vinyl (with a fantastic 36-page Booklet).
